90% of Indians are 'idiots', Markandey Katju Says

New Delhi:

Ninety percent of indians are "Idiots' who can easily be misled by mischievous elements in the name of religion, Press Coucil of India(PCI) chairperson Justice Markanday Katju claimed on Saturday.

"I say ninety per cent of Indians are idiots. You people don't have brains in your heads.... It is so easy to take you for a ride" he said at a seminar.

He said that a communal riot could be incited in Delhi for as meagre an amount as Rs 2000. He said that all somebody has to do is make a mischievous gesture of disrespect to a place of worship and people start fighting each other.
"You mad people will start fighting amongst yourself not realizing that some agent provocateur is behind this," he said.

Katju said that before 1857 there was no communalism in the country in the country but the situation was different now.
"Today 80% Hindus are communal and 80% Muslims are communal. THis is the harsh truth, better truth that i am telling you. How is it that in 150 years you have gone backwards instead of moving forward because the English KEpt injecting poison," Katju said. "The policy that emanated from London after the mutiny in 1857 that there is only one way to control this country that is to make Hindus and Muslims fight each other," he said.

He said that then there was propaganda that Hindi was the language of Hindus and Urdu of Muslims. "Our ancestors also studied Urdu, but it is so easy to fool you. You are idiots so how difficult is it to make an idiot of you," Katju said.

Katju said that he was saying these harsh things to make Indians, whom he loved to understand the whole game and not remain fools.

It has been developed under the aegis of IIT Bombay with the active support of C-DAC. Datawind is rolling out the device.

"The price is Rs 2,263 at which the government purchases the device from us. The government subsidises it by 50 per cent and it will be distributed to students at Rs 1,130," said Datawind CEO Suneet Tuli.

He said the government is also trying to encourage the state governments to chip in by subsidising it further so that the device can eventually be available to students free of cost.

The first one lakh devices will be provided to students of engineering colleges and universities and subsequently these will be distributed to others.

About 22 crore students will get the device across the country in the next five to six years. By coming Monday alone, 20,000 devices are expected to reach out to the students.

IT industry to create 4.4 million jobs by 2015: Gartner

IT industry to create 4.4 million jobs by 2015: Gartner

BANGALORE: IT industry would see creation of 4.4 million jobs globally by 2015 to support big data, but only one-third of the jobs will be filled because there is not enough talent, according to IT research and advisory firm Gartner.

It also said the IT spending is forecast to surpass $3.7 trillion in 2013, a 3.8 per cent increase from the current year projected spending of $3.6 trillion.

"By 2015, 4.4 million IT jobs globally will be created to support big data, generating 1.9 million IT jobs in the United States," said Peter Sondergaard, Senior Vice-President at Gartner and Global Head of Research.

In addition, every big data-related role in the US will create employment for three people outside of IT, so over the next four years a total of 6 million jobs in the US will be generated by the information economy, Gartner said.

"But there is a challenge. There is not enough talent in the industry. Our public and private education systems are failing us. Therefore, only one-third of the IT jobs will be filled. Data experts will be a scarce, valuable commodity," Sondergaard said.

"IT leaders will need immediate focus on how their organization develops and attracts the skills required. These jobs will be needed to grow your business. These jobs are the future of the new information economy", he added.

Big data creates a new layer in the economy which is all about information, turning information, or data, into revenue. This will accelerate growth in the global economy and create jobs, Gartner said.

"Big data is about looking ahead, beyond what everybody else sees," Sondergaard said.

"You need to understand how to deal with hybrid data, meaning the combination of structured and unstructured data, and how you shine a light on 'dark data.' Dark data is the data being collected, but going unused despite its value", he added.

Sms Limit Increased to 20 per day

NEW DELHI: With mobile phone users put to great inconvenience due to the cap of five text messages per day imposed in the aftermath of
spread of rumours leading to exodus of northeasterners from several parts of the country, the government on Thursday increased the limit to 20 a day.

The relaxation will continue till the end of the ban on August 31. The government had imposed the ban on bulk SMSes and MMSes on August 17.

The ban was imposed after parliamentarians, cutting across party lines, sought a check on spread of rumours which led to northeastern people leaving in droves from cities like Bangalore, Hyderabad and Pune.

Notifying the revised order, the ministry of communications said, "The other conditions will remain the same." It means mobile phone users can send a maximum 20 SMSes in one day. As far as MMSes are concerned, users can send only up to 20 KB of data in one go during the ban period.

The decision to put a cap on the number of text messages and data through mobile phones was taken after reports of widespread circulation of SMSes and MMSes containing misleading information and 'doctored' pictures of Assam violence.

An official said, "The decision to relax the permissible limit was taken after reviewing need and response of users, specifically pre-paid mobile customers who had to face a lot of problems due to restrictions from telecom operators."

Though such a ban may not put a complete check on spread of false or misleading information, officials believe this coupled with strict monitoring of flow of text messages will act as a deterrent.
